You have a saint's patience... I would not touch that thing and tell the client she had to make sure to read measurements when buying online, I'm this cruel of a person. Making the dress again and then clients complaining the fixing costs as much as the dress made me this way

Let me leave with this before I go in. I am currently 300 lb. I'm very much a big girl. I'm going to say it again. I'm fat. Okay. Now that we got that out the way... Why do we do this to ourselves as big girls? I'm so sick of seeing this very sweet seamstress show me video after video after damn video of 3x, 4x and 5x girls wanting dresses that are on women that are a third of their size and then wondering why they don't fit right on top of buying the cheap, knockoff version of the dress. You knew it wasn't going to fit. You knew it wasn't going to be like the original because you knew it was a knockoff. Big people cannot afford to be cheap. Shop at a big girl place. There are all kinds of big girl boutiques that have dresses that have blown my mind. Plus, you have to work with your shape. I - for example - am pear-shaped. The widest part of my body is my hips. So those cute little dresses that have the bus line that criss crosses across the front can't be worn by me because my breasts don't fill them. I also can't wear very long skirts because I look like I'm carrying the back half of a damn horse costume underneath my skirt. It also hikes up a damn foot off the ground because my big ass is lifting the skirt up so I would have to wear it way higher than my waistline in the front to make it look even at the floor. What does that mean? It means I need to not wear them. Even skinny girls can't wear everything they want to. Big girl seem to think that they're insulting themselves or they don't love themselves if they don't try to squeeze their fat ass in every outfit. We can't wear everything and it's not because we're big necessarily. Because I have smaller breasts, I can wear a lot of strapless numbers that a lot of other girls can't wear because they're breasts hit their navel. Compliment your shape by wearing the right stuff and cut this s*** out.

Absolutely great alterations

This look is riffing on an English Renaissance silhouette. Since I have actually designed and built these dresses, the look is NEVER intended to be practical. The bodice, in fact is intended to have structured foundation garments, "stays" underneath. The front of the bodice itself is quite simple, usually with no darts or seams. The neckline is intended to come just above the nipples and to push the bosom upward. The real problem is the sleeves which, in authentic form, would be separate from the bodice and tied on with "points" or laces. Additionally, the side and/or back seam may be laced also. Even the bodice waist to the skirt waist, which made them separates as we know them today. Great for people who had few sets of clothes and needed to adjust for all of life's exigencies, including pregnancy. For upperclass ladies, the garments were meant to show their arms and hands in gentle repose, unlike peasants, a lady would NEVER need to lift her arms higher than her waist. Now, there are ways to make this type of bodice practical for modern day wear but retain the design. First, a subtle band of elastic on the inside edge of the sleevehead, you dont want it to gather, just there to keep the sleeve from falling off the shoulder when the wearer relaxes them. Second, a GUSSET in the underarm armseye to extend the freedom of movement. Preferably though, would be a two piece sleeve which forms to the shape and function of the arm better than a tube. Either of these should not alter the design itself when done correctly. A foundation garment such as a longline bra or bustier could be worn. However, the ones on the market today are not intended for the straight front bodice. Ideally, the dress bodice should be boned in the manner of 16th century stays, or corset, which flattened, supported and thrust the bosomm upward. The waist and skirt lifting with the arms is problematic. Normally they would be separate pieces, laced together with "points", but if the sleeve is constructed with enough wiggle room from the gusset, all should be well.
